Well the show did eventually get on the road
After an eventful week weather wise the OK was agreed by Myself
and Steve Appleby although from the outset we knew it would be a stiff test of the birds
Although 1 hour before the birds arrival the sun was shining at the lofts and the estimates of
arrival times were getting quicker by the minute.  The Rain then came as suddenly as the sun dissapeared and with a vengence a solid hour of heavy rain then the talk began would any get through how many would make it etc.
Any way as the rain started to abate and a bright patch of sky arrived so did the birds with three arriving from the North obviously followed the light as i approached the loft door whistling the birds in, the first little dark hen hit and as i entered the lofts so did she followed shortly after by the other two. It was soon checked and confirmed as belonging to Kevin Rochelle from Blackburn winning a cool £8000.
Not to long after a batch of 16 arrived letting on the loft and having a good shake to rid themselves of some excess water before slowly entering the lofts just as we started to think small batches would then arrive they appeared 1 at a time and thats how it continued until as dusk dropped the last brave little hen belonging to S Bennett dropped in near dark so dark in fact that we had to shine a torch onto the trap so she could see to get in making 47 birds home on a very tough test for these YBs.  The lions share of the pools went to Chris Williams and the remainder going to Hullys Gullys.
Ace pigeon trophy has been provisionally won by Brian Gower Well done to you all that got birds on a very trying day today and lets hope more arrive before the really bad weather sets in tomorrow.

Thanks for your support everyone and thankyou i have enjoyed every minute
Well Almost
John

The Final race from Portland 205 miles
Weather conditions at the moment are making
it very difficult to say when the best day for the
race will be.  After consultation with Steve Appleby
this morning it looks very much as if Thursday this week
will be the best day for the race although as we know this
can change and usually does.
The birds arrived back from portland at approx 4pm yesterday
and were liberated in the car park. the evening was very wet
and not much light so after a few minutes stretching there wings
around the loft the birds were called in and fed and watered they
looked in good condition and all 135 birds were clocked by the Unikon System.
and this morning when exercised rose high and were really enjoying there fly
after about 50 mins they trapped to there breakfast 50% Gem Chat Corn and 50% Red Band
This afternoon the birds will exercise again then they will be fully back into the routine.
Yesterday at the lofts we met the lads and Lady from Trinidad and Kev Barry and the crew from Ireland
i am gutted that these lads will go home and miss the race but really nice to meet you all and
have a safe journey home.
Good Luck in the race
John

Hi all
Firstly may i take this opportunity to apologize to any one who traveled for the race on Sunday, especially those that traveled from Trinidad, and those from Ireland.
I was really hoping i could get the race on for you all but the great British weather has beaten me again, the weather front off the Channel moved in a lot further and faster than forecast this coupled with the weather front from the west and the early poor visibility put pay to any chances. After consultation with Steve Appleby it was deemed to be no better tomorrow. so the decision was made by myself to return the pigeons back to the lofts.
I had many messages of support and as was always going to be the case people asking why?.  Believe me i had one concern on my mind the birds welfare and giving each and every one of you involved in the race a fair crack of the whip.  The pressures were their to release come what may especially with visitors traveling far and wide but if we released and got no birds they still would not have seen a race, so although i'm feeling a little sick but in my heart i know i made the right decision.  We will look at the weather for Tuesday as this is the earliest i believe we will be ale to put the birds out right again, although at the moment it isn't a great forecast then it will taken day by day for those who will now miss the race i am gutted, but still determined to give you a good race from 200 miles.
Thanks for the support
John

Sorry Guys and girls

The weather front from the Channel has now caught up and gone past the lib point
with the visibility and the weather front coming in from the West the decision to return the birds back
to the lofts has been taken

Really sorry those that have travelled sorry

John

Hi lads & Lasses to keep you all informed

We have a weather adviser on board Steve Appleby
I have just got off the Phone with him so here is the
outcome of the conversation

There is a cold front currently over Ireland that is moving East
if this cold front moves faster than Forecast we will not get a race
Sunday if it stays as forecast we will in all likely'hood get them up Sunday

My next conversation will be with Steve at 11:50 tomorrow when we will be
able to advise if its worth basketing the birds with a view to getting a liberation Sunday am.

I will Phone my son to post the outcome on Pigeon Chat and the One Loft Web site (on the Guest book)
if its a go i will then basket the birds and travel home when i will post the Basketed birds list and with a lot of luck
be in time to clock my own birds from the Midlands National

Lets hope the weather smiles on us
and good luck everyone
John

WEATHER PROBLEM
Please Note the weather is causing some concerns for Sundays Race
we may have to put the race back so before setting out on your Journey check the Web site
Looks like the weather may have the last say.
We will make a decision Saturday Dinner time
Cheers John

Just a quick update GB08R26755 Belonging to Acton Bridge FC & GB08N70050 belonging to P Reace  Trinidad returned to the lofts today tired but otherwise OK.
John

Hi All
Well thats the Last hotspot done
it turned out a race of two halfs  the first batches making very good time
then there was the inevitable lull and then birds arriving in ones and twos all afternoon there were a couple of birds showing signs that the Hawks had been busy with the cover flights missing but no flesh wounds i'm glad to say.
These birds have seen it all and when the day of reckoning comes next week i'm sure they will give a good account of themselves.
Well done to the prizewinners.

John

Birds arrived at Frome in the early hours and have now rested well and been watered
there was rain at the race point earlier but this has now cleared and the sun is shining.
we are looking at a 09:30 Lib all being well. the birds will face a west wind and at marking last night looked well, today should be a good test for for the birds and we look forward to a good race.
Please be Patient i will get the result up as soon as i can again i will try to post a provisional first 10 but with no internet at the yard it will take a wee while.

Lib Time will be posted on the guest book

Good Luck everyone

John

Hi all
It is probably apparent by now  that the race yesterday did not go to plan and by all accounts we were not on our own with my own fed from Mangotsfield having a very simalar race.
Post mortem i could sit here all day and probably give any of a hundred reasons, each one of which could be shot down. so i am not going to dwell on it, it turned out a very tough race with birds arriving all day long all i can say is they look really good this morning droppings are good and there appetite is normal some of the later ones and the ones that arrived this morning 13 of them look tired of course but no injuries and will be ready to fight another day.
here is the list of arrivals after the clock was struck off

Good morning everybody
we have a window in the weather this morning
and are looking to liberate at 07:45 from Mangotsfield
139 miles
we will confirm this on the Guest book

Good Luck to all
cheers John

Sad moment this afternoon when i went into the loft to Photograph
Davey Reeds Hotspot winner i could not find her, so i checked the clock
and she was not back from Exercise and as of 19:00 hrs this evening she was still not
home.  Its bad enough to lose any from around the lofts at this stage of the season
but a winner of a hotspot is a hard pill to swallow.
Lets hope she's there in the morning.

John

Race Programme
Weather permitting the following is the programme
17/08/08 Swainswick
24/08/08 Frome
31/08/08 Portland (Final Race)

John

Hi All
please keep your eye on the guest book for updates as this is the easiest way to keep you posted
Cheers John

Rules Ammendment

As was noted by ourselves and a few others there are quite a few dead Heats
on the last result with this in mind.  We contacted Unikon and they assured us even if more than one bird is clocked on the same second the first on the pad in that second will be printed on the main result.
However as it has been pointed out what if there is a genuine dead heat? we can not rule it out therefore any pigeons tied on the same second will share that prize that they are tied for and same goes for Pools.
It is not ideal but it is as much as we can get from the system so this is what has been decided.
Although as we move up in distance i am sure we won't have as many opportunities for the dead heat as the birds spread out with the distance flown.

Thanks Andy and John

Hi All
This weekends Hotspot
As a saturday Lib cannot be sure due to the weather and our regular driver is unable to stay over we have made the decision to go from Kempsey the birds will be convoyed by Tommy Gerrard this will give us the option of holding over if theres bad weather thus giving us a better chance of a lib. This means the next hotspot will be a bigger jump distance wise but we feel that the bigger jump won\'t be a problem when the weather settles.
keep your eyes peeled for lib news either on here or on Pigeon Chat or ring me on 07801815165 you can contact me on this number for late pools as long as you ring before Liberation.

Cheers John
Good Luck everyone

Hi All
Tuesday Cheltenham Cancelled due to bad Weather
the forecast for the rest of the week looks poor with
lots of Heavy showers and poor Visibility.
The next best day Sat now if we do decide to go with Sat
i can promise it will be a very early start to avoid any clashing
with the other Federation pigeons racing that day.
So keep your eyes on the web site and your E Mails
for further information.
Pools for this race should be recieved by Friday 8th August.
Poll monies for Hotspot 1 posted under Basket 1/Race result

Cheers John

Pigeon Chat One Loft Newsletter 23      03rd August 2008

There off The birds were Liberated at 11am from Stafford 50 miles
the wind was West South West and Light showers on route.

At the Loft we had a few visitors who came to wait for the Birds the unluckiest of whom must be
John Crehan  (Crebag) as some will know him on Pigeon Chat, firstly he missed the first batch arrive but was able to Phone Andy and tell him the birds will be able to with you in 30 seconds (they were) thanks for the early warning John he then arrived at the yard as i received a Call to tell me his second candidate in the race had Hit a telegraph pole in Stoke and had been Killed out right. He took it Quite well hard luck John
Lets hope your remaining candidate that finished 13th today can keep up the good work.

Our estimates for arrivals ranged from 55 mins to 75 mins with the former ending up correct for velocities just short of 1600 YPM.  With 155 birds clocked in the following 5 mins.

Thanks to H Howman Gaz of Pigeon Chat and A Swindles for the Online Weather reports.
Thanks to Colin And Steve for transporting and looking after the Birds.

The full Result is Online Click on Basket Hotspot 1 and under it will appear Race result then just click on the link and Click on the result Link.

Well today went well and i feel it was just the warm up they needed Before the Second Hotspot from Cheltenham on Tuesday Weather permitting.

Cheers John & Andy

Pigeon Chat One Loft Newsletter 22      28 th July 2008

Well today we should have marked for the first Hotspot, but as most of you will have noticed the weather forecast earlier in the week turned tail on us and tomorrow instead of being the best day is now almost certainly a no no.

So instead of marking for the hotspot this afternoon the birds were basketed for training 35 miles the electrician was in to check out my wiring for the ETS system as it had tripped the electric a few times or at least that’s what I thought, turned out it was the Kettle LOL .

So no result for what turned out to be a very tough training toss the first few birds covering the 35 miles in   55 minutes they had quite obviously overshot in the South East wind and were very broken up coming back from the north, the biggest batch that arrived together was about 60 strong and the birds were arriving still 2 and a half hours later when I had to leave for an appointment the last two I saw  arrived together to leave another 24 or so (counted by hand) still to come.

Andy being away instructions were left with Andy’s partner who agreed to keep an eye on them for us, the good thing from my point of view was the way the birds were finishing if they finish like that on the final race it will be a site to behold.

OK 1 st hotspot and second hotspot will take place Sunday and Tuesday weather permitting from Stafford 55 miles then Cheltenham 109 miles and I am sure if we get a fresh day weather wise they will romp home.

Andy is back from his travels tomorrow and I will be back to work Wed for a rest LOL,  please have pools for second hotspot (Cheltenham) to us at the usual address before Monday 4 th August.

Good luck next week

John

Pigeon Chat One Loft Race Newsletter 21    22 nd July 2008-07-22

Hi all after the trials and tribulations of the last couple of weeks and the infamous training toss the birds have settled again and are flying well around the lofts, they are looking well with that shine returning so there are now 187 birds in the lofts however 3 are injured and will take a while to heal.

The birds were back on the road today with a toss from 10 miles and took in there stride, the clocking list will appear at the bottom of this newsletter.

The timing system issues are now sorted and every bird entering the lofts are clocking ok, unfortunately Unikon are unable to sort out the problem of not being able to post Syndicate names next to ring numbers for training unless every bird is Marked which is obviously to time consuming every training toss.  However I have not given up and I am currently talking to a few people who may be able to help via a database, this also applies to races until the Clock is struck off although I have come up with a solution for this although not ideal it will I am sure work.

OK the plan going forward after another 10 mile chuck the birds will move on to 1 at 20 miles and then 1 at 30 before going into there first Hotspot which will be from 50 miles and take place on the nearest best weather day from Sun 27 th July to Tuesday 29 th July All being well after another weeks training they will then go to Cheltenham for there 2 nd Hotspot.

Those people who have already sent Pool Money don’t worry all is as normal and if you have not already pooled then you have until sat 26 th July to get them in.

I will post some new photo’s on the website this evening so you can see some of the birds in there loft and maybe spot some of yours?.

OK here is the list from today’s training please don’t worry about the few later ones they have been playing around and there are a couple of injured ones that were let out late for a flip round.

Hi All

Just a quick update after that disasterous trainer on Tuesday Evening

There are currently 183 birds accounted for, two being released near the lofts
tomorrow one reported in Lancashire and maybe significantly one reported dead
Hawk attack South Manchester, although these are hazards they will have to face
more than once in there short racing career.
I keep hoping and they keep coming but alas the returns will dry up soon, on friday i shall do an
inventory of the birds in the lofts and post on the web site.

Good luck to those gallant birds still making for home.

John

Thur / Fri we stuck to the Bio yogurt and cider vinegar then we had Strike two and Gem Thepax on the corn Sat / Sun the feed has been increased in both weight and strength of mix until today when the birds were given a full 100% pigeon Chat YB Mix with multi vits in the water and after an hour or so flying they were basketed and taken training just to the 10 mile stage so we could check for sure that they were OK.   Well it took them 14 minutes and in Andy’s words they were racing every inch and trapped there heads off.   So we are now happy to move them back to 25miles and then 35 before getting them to the first Hot Spot which we are thinking will be from 50 miles so we can then move them in steady stages up to Cheltenham and back on track.

We have had a couple of birds in the wires with one being so badly injured it had to be suppressed the owner has been notified others were minor scrapes and are back training all in all we are happy and ready to move on it will be up to the birds to live with the pace now lets see how many can hack it, as Bill my American buddy says every bird gives something some birds give everything.

Three of the four traps being used have been rebuilt and the fourth is due to be finished tomorrow, the birds have taken the changes in their stride and after a little look took to the new traps well.  The clocking system is now working well and I will start to post the results in the evenings unfortunately I can’t show the late arrivals as I would have already left for home most times so don’t worry to much if your bird is not on the early arrivals list.

OK look out for those training results and the announcement of when the first Hotspot will take place we will pick a good forecast weather wise and let you have as much notice as we can.

Good Luck all

John & Andy

Pigeon Chat One Loft Race

EXTRA Communication

Hello all

This is an extra Communication to inform you all that Sundays race has been postponed, On calling the birds in from exercise today we noticed those dreaded signs i.e. a handful of birds not wanting to trap and on closer inspection there was 12 or so birds that had held some grub from the previous nights feed.  We have obviously inspected the birds closely and in our opinion approx 10% of the birds are below par so we have just given a very light feed of depurative with Bio yogurt applied with a little Cider vinegar in the water.  Now we are not worrying too much at the moment but the next few days will tell the tale, we will take a decision tomorrow evening as to weather or not the birds continue to fly out or are confined to the loft whilst they get back to full health again. No matter what i would not consider training or racing these birds until i am 100% happy they are back to normal.
So keep an eye on your E Mails for updates as to where the birds are at with regards to Training / Racing. Luckily one thing we do have on our side is time so no panick and lets hope we dont have to apply any antibiotics we would rather not go down that road unless we need to.
Thanks for your patience
And good luck to you all when we get rolling again.
John & Andy.

Hi All

Well just a week to go before the first Hot Spot Race from Kempsey and as they say so far so good the birds are flying well and the training is going well with the birds training from 25 miles and bar for one sticky toss on Friday evening  when 12 were missing 8 returned next day and one sunday with an injured leg 2 were reported and one is still AWOL, ah well thats one loft racing for you.

Young Mick Hession thanks for your help today and yes i was winding you up your Red Mickey is still in the lofts, LOL  By the way thanks Gangster for offering to pick up the bird from liverpool your a star.

A gentle reminder

Can i ask that you all make a note that Andy is on Holiday for the second race and i will not have access to mail delivered to Andys house so although its ok to send the pool money to Andy's address you will need  to send me details of birds that you are pooling and in which pool you are entering them so they will not be missed (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED).  Send details (SECOND RACE ONLY) to                                      pigeonchat-oneloft@hotmail.co.uk Cheers.

Ok back to the birds, the pressure is now being applied to the birds and we shall see if any have cracks in their make up, of course there will also be the usual dangers wires, hawks etc so lets hope they have that little bit of luck that all pigeons need when setting out on a racing season.

Could anyone planning on visiting the lofts on the Sunday of the first race (Weather Permitting) please contact us before hand then we know how many we are looking after as Andy will be having food delivered to order from his Cafe at his new yard.

The unikon teething problems have been overcome Thanks for the help Jeremy it could have set me back a long time if you were not there on the end of the phone to advise me Thankyou.

You may have noticed over the weeks a few strange ring numbers appearing on the lists well these birds were bred as spares for the race incase there was anyone who had lost all their birds at the end of April and had nothing ready to replace them with, well as you know we were fortunate enough not to have to use them, so we now have 8 spare birds that can be activated for £85.50 by anyone who has entered the race so heres your chance to have an extra chance of winning that £8000 first prize, If there are any spares not sold by Sat 12th July they will be up for sale to anyone on the Pigeon Chat Web Site. The ring Numbers are

GB 08 X 43796 -- GB 08 D 18444 -- GB 08 D 18448 -- GB 08 D 18458 -- GB 08 D 1845

GB 08 F 14332 -- GB 08 F 14333 -- GB 08 J 20308.

So if you are interested get in touch ASAP Tel: 07801815165 Remember first come First served.

The feedback has been a little slow recently so i take it by and large you are happy with the way things are going, from my point of view theres always something that i am not happy with as i am a bit of a perfectionist and i'm sure i drive Andy mad at times but hey i will try my heart out to give you all what you deserve a fair race with good information from the lofts.

To those coming next weekend see you then to them that cant make it keep an eye on the Website i will update it as soon as it is possible.

Pigeon Chat One Loft Race Newsletter 18

          Date:  30th June 2008

Hi All

Hope your seasons are going well, mine was very poor until this weekend when i was 1st and 4th Mangotsfield 123 miles and 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Messac 377 miles, tell you what i still can't stop smiling. Anyway enough of me its the One loft birds you want to know about, firstly i now have the new Unikon software (Thanks Ray) and after a little time on the Telephone with Chris Dalton i also know how to use it Thanks Chris. Whilst we are still talking about Unikon and the clocking system i have also finally sorted out how so many birds were being missed whilst trapping and after pestering Richie Elliott to death between the two of us we have the solution although i still have to rebuild part of the traps, Richie your a Gent the sport of pigeon racing is much richer for having people like you in it.

OK The first race although the birds are now ready to move onto 2 fifteen milers and then to 26 miles where they will stay twice a day we have taken the decision to put the first race back to the13th July. The birds would be ready for the 6th of July if we could follow the plan but having checked out the 10 day forecast the weather looks bloody awful around Manchester so rather than take chances and then have to cancel at a late date we have done it now, after all another weeks work won't do them any harm at all. The second race will stay as planned on the 20th July so you have an extra week to get those pools to us so just to reiterate pools in before the 12th July for the first Race.

Keep your eyes peeled for an updated birds in the loft over the next week if by any chance you should pool a bird that is missing when they are Marked for the race your money will be returned or at your request held to pool for the next race.

The birds are currently in great health and trapping like mad there appetite is brilliant and i can see we are going to have some real fun with these birds over the next 10 weeks and some one is going to be very happy.

tonight when they finished there exercise 227 birds registered on the trapping system and i could see the ones that hadn't clocked as they came through the traps piggy back style this of course is easily remidied and will be put right over the next few days.

A thought came to me today i had forgotten to mention that the darkness covers had come down for the last time on the 21st and the birds are starting to shine they just need to get some of that much cherished sunshine to give them that glow that only Darkness YBs seem to have.

Visitors at the loft over the last week Seve Maylett, Jeanette Taylor, Wayne Jones and syndicate member Andrew who now believe me when i say it seems to rain a lot in Manchester nice to see you all.

Good luck to you all with your own racing and good luck for the first race on the 13 th July

Cheers John & Andy

Well Its always the way isn't it first training tosses planned and cancelled due to high winds and tommorow mornings training will not take place as i have a few lads coming down to go through every pigeon in the loft and check the ets rings are registered correctly and swiping correctly accross the pads.

so the next list we put up will be the correct Birds in the loft list whilst doing this weeks list it was apparent that some ets rings have not been registering so after much thought the traps will be altered to make sure no pigeons are missed, this will slow the birds going through the traps considerably but i make no excuses it is vital no birds are missed in any of the races.

The first race is looming very quickly and if the training does not progress as planned then we will delay the first Hot spot race and hold it on the 13th of july instead so please anybody who is thinking of coming over for the first race get in touch for confirmation before making any plans.

The Birds health is excellent at the moment and we have no doubts these YBs are ready to start the training and racing programme, the lofts are being sprayed daily with Virkon S and the birds will now have routine tests just to keep abreast of anything that might get in the way of Good racing and returns.

Dont forget the pools for the first race just send us your Birds Number and state the pools you are entering the bird into along with a cheque

Pigeon Chat One Loft Race Newsletter 16

          Date:  17th June 2008

Bitter sweet week at the lofts, Bitter well we have had a mini flyaway, sweet because all the birds have been flying very very well.  Please don't panic as the birds that were missing today some 20 in total were only missing about 2 hours when i had to leave for home so its highly likely that more have worked there way in.  i can say for sure that 214 birds registered on the unikon system but i have spotted a problem with a dead spot between two pads which i shall put right this coming weekend.  I only noticed this as two late birds trapped without registering i then caught the two birds and swiped them across the pad and they registered.

so for sure 214 registered possibly a few more in the loft unregistered and a few more will hopefully return this evening / morning, i have however  been able to list them better this week  so i hope this helps,  the one real chink of light is that every competitor has at least 1 bird still there to compete and as you will see some have returned that were missing of the last list.

The health of the birds has been excellent for the past week which bodes well for the start of the training early next week,  so its all go with lots of ups and downs to come i'm sure.   It will be a nail biting time for ourselves judging by some of the horror stories that are doing the rounds about YB training at the moment it will be good to get the first trainers out of the way.

Spare a thought for two other one loft managers who are not having a good time at the moment Kenny Bald and Terry Williams good luck lads hope things improve soon for you.

Well  i'm sure your wanting to see what you have left in the race so here is the latest list and remember with YBs this has probably already changed.

The birds that have an Astrix behind the number are the birds that are AWOL at the time when the ETS was dissconected
